Objectives
The Safety for Senior Executives course develops an understanding of the legal, moral and economic health and safety issues and how they influence strategic thinking in the development of holistic risk management practices.
Course Structure
The course consists of a 1 day program for Senior Executives which includes:
- The legal framework for health and safety and responsibilities for senior executives
- Legal, moral and financial issues
- Current thinking/changes in health and safety management
- Powers of inspectors and enforcement, including PACE
- Health and safety considerations for strategic planning, decision-making and effective supply chain management
- Accidents at work: the cost of accidents, accident reporting requirements, accident prevention techniques
- Health and safety and management systems: quality maangement and integrated systems
Assessment of the Course
Understanding of the course material is evaluated by means of an assessment paper and a project completed on the day. Successful completion results in the award of an Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) Certificate.

HSE is pleased to be a partner in the Scottish Occupational Road Safety Alliance (ScORSA) to assist the Scottish Government's Road Safety Framework to 2020 which aims to influence a reduction in road related injury and deaths.
