Audience
The course is intended for those who have management responsibilities on construction sites.
Objectives
The course provides a practical summary of sustainability and environmental issues and enables delegates to understand and put into practice the principles of sustainable construction.
Course Structure
Provide delegates with a comprehensive understanding of the social and Environmental impacts and issues associated with construction activities
Develop an understanding of why sustainability issues are important in the Construction context
Provide a basic understanding of the following key issues:
- Waste
- Water & Energy
- Transport & Procurement
- Materials & Biodiversity
- Archaeology and Heritage
- Communities
- BREEAM
To achieve these issues the following topics will be covered during the training:
- The issue – on a global, national and local scale
- How it affects construction activities
- A summary of associated legal requirements
- Key Do’s and Don’ts
- Best practice techniques
- Where to find further information
This is to ensure that at the end of the course Delegates will be able to:
- Understand the need to consider sustainability
- Have an understanding of environmental law
- Understand how sustainability fits into their role
Assessment of the Course
The method of assessment will be by multiple-choice questions at the end of the course.
Course Length
The course consists of two lecture days.
Course Attendance
Delegates are required to attend both sessions, since without full attendance and achievement in the examination the Site Sustainability Certificate cannot be achieved. Delegates must attend the days in order and, where not on consecutive days, must complete the course within two weeks. Delegates unable to attend both days will need to enrol onto a new course in order to maintain continuity of learning outcomes and attend both days again.
