What is the CITB Employer Network Grant and Funding Scheme?

The CITB Employer Network Grants and Funding initiative allows groups of construction employers to come together to form employer networks that identify common skills gaps and training needs. CITB supports these networks by providing funding to cover up to 100% of training costs, making it easier and more affordable for businesses to upskill their workforce.

This funding is separate from other CITB grants, like the Skills and Training Fund, meaning businesses can access this support without affecting their eligibility for other forms of CITB financial assistance.

A key condition of accessing the 70% - 30% funding and grants for training is that you book direct with a CITB Approved Training Organistaion. Book through a broker, even if the delivery is via a CITB ATO, and you will not be eligible. Grants and funding are easy and quick to access, and the RISK team can help you navigate the process. Even if you are a construction company below the wage role threshold, or an individual.

These networks are designed to ensure that all employers—regardless of size—have access to the training and resources needed to remain competitive in the construction sector.

Why Was It Introduced?

CITB introduced the Employer Network Grants and Funding scheme to address several key challenges within the construction industry:

 1 - Skills Shortages

  • The UK construction industry has faced ongoing skills shortages, exacerbated by an aging workforce and limited new talent entering the sector.
  • The scheme helps to close skills gaps by encouraging employers to prioritize training and workforce development.

2 -  Access Barriers for SMEs

  • Smaller businesses often struggle to afford training or navigate the complexities of accessing funding. Employer networks simplify the process by pooling resources and spreading costs.

 3 - Sector Collaboration

  • Collaboration between businesses creates economies of scale, enabling more targeted and effective training for shared skills gaps.
  • It also ensures consistent standards across the sector.

 4 - Regional Disparities

  • Many rural or less densely populated areas struggle to access affordable training.
  • Employer networks provide a framework to address regional needs by encouraging co-operation among local employers.

 5 - Post-Pandemic Recovery

  • Following the COVID-19 pandemic, many construction companies faced financial pressures that limited investment in training.
  • The scheme ensures that training remains a priority despite financial constraints.

Why selecting a CITB-approved trainer like RISK is important?

The construction industry is heavily regulated to ensure worker safety and efficiency. CITB-approved trainers like RISK provide workers and managers with trusted, standardised training that meets industry requirements, enabling individuals to work safely and legally on construction sites.

If you're looking for training or certification for yourself or your team, working with RISK (as a CITB-approved trainer), ensures that the courses are legitimate and recognised within the industry. Plus you get full eligability for any CITB grants or funding.
