SMSTS Training is the Site Management Safety Training Scheme accredited by CITB and is for anyone involved in the management or planning, organising, monitoring, controlling and administering construction safety.

What is SMSTS Training designed to deliver?

SMSTS Training provides managers with all relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce. It is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all supervisors working on Build UK sites. Build UK is the leading representative organisation for the UK construction industry. This makes it an ideal course for anyone looking to take a management role in the construction industry.

The SMSTS course aims to help you to:

  • Manage health and safety on site in accordance with current legal provisions, and within the context of your management or supervisory role
  • Develop an understanding of responsibilities and accountability for site health, safety and welfare
  • Recognise a safe site is efficient, economical and productive.

At the end of the SMSTS course training, you will be aware of, and able to implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation, which affects you during your daily work. What is the SMSTS Training Course content

At the end of the SMSTS course training, you will be aware of, and able to implement all health, safety, welfare and environmental legislation, which affects you during your daily work. What qualification does SMSTS Training give me?

Upon passing you’ll receive a CITB Site Safety Plus SMSTS certificate which is valid for 5 years. The SMSTS course is a nationally recognised safety qualification and it’s a requirement of most major contractor groups for managers working on their sites. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take an SMSTS refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.
