Changes to CITB SMSTS & SMSTS-R

As part of their product development cycle and commitment to providing training in line with industry requirements CITB have updated their Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS) and SMSTS Refresher courses.
SMSTS & SMSTS-R have new style exam and allow more time to complete it!
The new course material and exam papers have been in use from 1st April 2021. Site Management Safety Training Scheme (SMSTS and SMSTS-R) are two courses that are part of Site Safety Plus Programme, and are specifically for site managers or those moving into this role. They cover all relevant legislation affecting safe working in the building, construction and civil engineering industries. It highlights the need for risk assessment in the workplace, the implementation of the necessary control measures and adequate communication to sustain a health and safety culture within the workforce.
What has changed with the SMSTS & SMSTS-R?
► Updated Scheme of Work, with a new lesson plan template available
► Updated ‘What do you know (general) paper
► Updated XA6T Trainer Reference and core exercises, to give an enhanced explanation and insight into developers vision for delivery
► Updated publications, GE700 and XA6, with new additional web based companion content
► Changes to end of course assessment:
- 25 questions, made up of 18 multiple choice questions worth 1 mark each and 7 short written answer questions worth 2 marks each. No half marks are to be awarded.
- Extended examination duration to 35 minutes
- Partial open book allowed for 15 minutes
- 81% Pass mark (26/32) based on all questions
- A dedicated RESIT paper
► New additional optional CITB support material
New training materials have gone down well with delegates
RISK have produced new training materials in line with these CITB updates and developed structured notes to help delegates focus on what's important during the course learning. These changes will apply for both classroom and remote delivery. i.e. Microsoft Forms will be used for the new exam papers.
