The Lincoln Grand Prix Sportive, embedded within the historic Lincoln Grand Prix weekend since 1956, provides amateur cyclists with a challenging experience, notably featuring the renowned Michaelgate climb. This climb is a significant part of the professional race and adds a unique dimension to the Sportive. This year’s event, held on May 10th, included 68-year-old managing director of RISK, Mike Adams. His aim was to raise funds for Motor Neuron Disease (MND) and prepare for upcoming knee replacement surgery. Mike’s body has endured decades of participation in demanding activities, including the Army Ski Team, Football, Rugby, Commando duties, and Reining at a World Class standard. Despite these physical challenges, he set his sights on a top-ten finish in the demanding 46-mile race. Competing against 102 riders, Mike impressively burned 1840 calories and maintained an average speed of 18 mph. He completed the race in 2 hours, 33 minutes, and 58 seconds, securing 14th place out of 101 finishers. The race was won in 2 hours, 15 minutes, and 40 seconds, while the last rider crossed the finish line in 5 hours and 3 minutes. Mike claimed first place in the over-67 age category. His fundraising efforts have successfully raised over £1000 for the My Name’5 Doddie MND charity.
