Operation R.I.D.E New Zealand 2018

Operation R.I.D.E New Zealand 2018

A charity fundraising dinner at The Special Forces Club, Knightsbridge, London - was a great evening plus raised funds to help the Pilgrim Bandits Charity send injured service personnel on Operation R.I.D.E New Zealand 2018.

The Pilgrim Bandits Charity and their great work

A small group of Special Forces veterans established Pilgrim Bandits Charity in 2007 with the sole aim of using their unique training and experience to help and inspire injured personnel to live life to the full.

Always a Little Further

The mantra ‘Always a Little Further’ is core to the charity’s attitude, whether working with amputee men and women from the services directly or by utilising their experiences to inspire and encourage young people and children. Pilgrim Bandits do not do sympathy, but offer the rewards of belonging to a team, encouragement, belief and the power of humour over pain.

Operation R.I.D.E New Zealand 2018

This is an adapted tandem bike race from the southern tip of New Zealand Motupohue Scenic Reserve in Bluff (the bottom of New Zealand’s south island) to Cape Reinga (ultimate northern New Zealand) a distance of 1,521, miles or 2,500 km.

The race will cover around 100 miles a day and take 21 days to completer. Injured servicemen from the UK, Canada and New Zealand will be participating and the fund raising event is in conjunction with the New Zealand military.

The fundraising dinner at the Special Forces Club gave those attending a great chance to explore this fascinating venue. Founded in 1945 on the initiative of Major-General Sir Colin Gubbins, the last Chief of the Special Operations Executive (SOE). The Club is famous for its collection of photographs of members of SOE and OSS and those from the post war era. Initially established for former personnel of the Special Operations Executive, members of wartime resistance organisations, the Special Air Service, Special Boat Service and First Aid Nursing Yeomanry, its membership now includes those who had served, or were serving, in organisations and units closely associated with special operations and the intelligence community.
