NEBOSH General Certificate London with RISK Health and Safety Training
Thea Cowan took and passed the NEBOSH General Certificate course in London - taking the RISK Fast Track NEBOSH course format.

The reason I chose this course with RISK is because my husband is in construction so he asked around and he came upon RISK being the best from within the industry and the people he asked.

I liked the NEBOSH Fast Track format
I looked a little bit myself I liked the way they split the courses and they were also the most helpful, when I phoned the office and so that’s why I went with them in the end as everyone else was pretty unhelpful.

The RISK support was friendly from the start, other companies just wanted to take my money
When I phoned I think I spoke to Anne-Marie and she was very reassuring when I told her I am going to do this course, not having done anything like it before; with opposed to the other companies that I phoned they were just a basic call centre and they didn’t want to help me at all, they were just pay the money and I thought that was probably how the course was run anyway, so I thought I would rather go with people who are a little bit more personal and to be fair the course has been nice and personal like that which is how I wanted it.

The reason I chose the Fast Track course is because it appeals to me and what I am trying to achieve in terms of coming new into this industry, so what I have experienced this week is a good quick transformation in my thinking, thinking critically, thinking like a safety officer, not very different to the way I was thinking before but slightly different.
Having two exams on the same day I would not be able to focus
I like that the course is run that way I think if I had a two week block of learning everything and then having two exams on the same day I would not be able to focus specifically on each exam, which I think would have left me in a bit of a muddle. I like that I have done a week now, intense and I can have an intense week of studying and then one exam and a rest and the next one.
I understood before that they had a higher than average pass rate, now that I have done the course and have seen the teaching style I can completely understand that

I needed to do the NEBOSH Course in London
I chose London cause I live in Wimbledon, but actually there was a course that is run from Wimbledon which I decided to choose against which was amazing as it is only 10 minutes up the road but I chose this course cos it is in London, 45 minutes away. The timing, I would like for it to be closer but I didn’t mine waiting. I chose it because it was in London specifically, I didn’t want to travel anywhere else.

I haven’t used it myself yet, as I have been too focused on trying to read it all, but I think this weekend coming, when I have to study I will definitely be using it I think it is really nice. When I first read about it on their website I thought that it would be someone that I have never met before and I am going to have to ring them up and ask the about something we did in class and they will just give me a generic answer, now I see it is my lecturer on the phone, I feel more comfortable picking up the phone, which I wouldn’t normally be comfortable picking up the phone and speaking to someone and I can see the way things he has handled it in class that it is very good advice.

RISK offer the Guaranteed Pass was what swung it for me definitely in the end, as I am using my own money I don’t think if I have to save up the money again to do a course, I think that would be devastating to me and it makes me feel a lot more comfortable about going through the week. It actually helped me through the week, you know it is difficult and you worry you are not good enough, but knowing that you have a second shot at it for not a lot of expense is what kept my mind going, OK its fine, there is a second shot.
I really like the group dynamic, it is a small enough class not too small that everyone is awkward, it is big enough to have different types of characters.
I love the way the different personalities have been managed by the lecturer, he also has made a point of making moments so that it will stick in our heads, as a memory that will come to us in the exam and hopefully in the future. I can see he has been actively been trying to do that which is a great lecturing style and I think his management of the group of people was, up there, I was very pleased with that.
