NEBOSH General Certificate London with RISK Health and Safety Training
Sebastian Blake took the NEBOSH General Certificate course in London - and passed with a Distinction.

Before I started the course, there were three things that attracted me to RISK;
1 - they have a higher than national pass rate
2 - they do a Guaranteed Pass Scheme; and..
3 - the modular system means that actually you can do a section of it and take the exam
"I am Sebastian Blake, I work at Oxford Brookes University and I am the Quality Manager for our Commercial Services Team, so I cover catering, accommodation for students and also conferencing provisions.
Before I started the course, there were three things that attracted me to RISK, they have a higher than national pass rate, they do a Guaranteed Pass Scheme, which would indicate that they actually are pretty confident on their teaching methods and getting the information you need to across and also the modular system means that actually you can do a section of it and take the exam, leave it for a couple of weeks and then do another section and take an exam, as opposed to having to learn awful lot over the course of the month and do two exams which overloads you quite a lot.
I wanted to do the NEBOSH course
I have a role in health and safety although I am not the main Safety Advisor for the organisation but I am sure of a certain amount of health and safety within those areas, making sure people are follow procedures. I wanted to do the NEBOSH course as I don’t feel I had enough of a qualification to feel really comfortable with that. I have been looking at a variety of options, as a result, when I was looking at it I was balancing how different providers do this. Because I know it is one of the most difficult professional qualifications you can do and that there is a very high failure rate so I wanted to see what would help me get an increase in the success rate and balance out various needs.

Looking at the RISK portfolio and the fact that it is split it is something that attracted me a lot, so you deal with one exam then you can just say that’s done, that’s fine, then I can build on my knowledge in the next one and do the other exam It is more useful that having the stress of two exams in one day.

I am doing the Fast Track NEBOSH Course, I am enjoying it from the point of view of the teacher Mike keeps you on track, everything he says becomes really apparent is what you need to know for the exam, it fits in in some way he is continually repeating to make sure you have the knowledge, and he just goes again, and again, and again, and again its not just cramming style there is a lot of information now permanently sinking in.

The reason I chose London for my NEBOSH Course
The reason I chose London was because it is relatively local to me, I felt that I had the option of commuting also if needs be staying with a friends and in the end I did decided to take up a hotel, which was relatively cheaper in comparison commuting and also giving me time to revise which I am really glad I did.

The reason I chose RISK was because of the Guaranteed Pass System, I quite like to know I am going to get a qualification and not have to repay for it and also because the structure is broken down into two so the idea of it being in modules was very attractive to me.

RISK offer an out of hours call service, that’s attractive in a few ways for me, I haven’t taken advantage of it yet but I imagine over the weekend when I am not going to have an opportunity to come in the next day with my questions it is probably going to happen at some point and I will give him a ring.

Also with any qualification you only build up a certain amount of competency, if that makes sense so this as with anything else has been an introduction to an awful lot of information, so actually the fact that I can ring him up later, when I am sitting there going, I think it is this or it might be that, when it comes to interpreting a particular piece of legislation from my workplace point of view and actually get an expert viewpoint on that and advise that is much more important than anything else.

It is something you need as any professional the opportunity to actually go to someone who really knows it and say I’ve got these options what are the best, it is something I find very useful in the environmental sector so it is a good process.
