CITB Site Supervision Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS) announces new Scheme Rules Changes for 2018. Review our quick summary of the changes and how they impact what you need to do to successfully complete the SMSTS & Refresher Courses in 2018.

Main SSSTS Course changes are in the assessment:

  1. Mandatory In course formative assessment:
    1. This assessment is a group exercise (groups of 3 or 4 delegates working together) for a specific construction scenario, where delegates have to undertake risk assessments (both general and COSHH), put together a method statement for the works and create a list of the main considerations that must be taken into account for this project, including focusing on safety aspects.
    2. On completion, the group should present a detailed brief back to the rest of the course.
    3. This will be marked as part of the tutor review out of 100 with and requirement to achieve a minimum of 70%.
  2. Mandatory tool box talk exercise:
    1. The purpose of this exercise is to build on the delegate’s confidence and focus their attention on clear health and safety messaging.
    2. This exercise is not formally assessed, although the trainer may consider this exercise as part of the overall review.
  3. End of Course Assessment:
    1. There is still and end of course assessment consisting of 25 questions to be answered in 30 minutes (20 mins closed book, last 10 minutes books can be used.
    2. There are now 22 multiple choice questions (1 question, 4 possible answers) worth 88 marks, and 3 short answer questions worth 12 marks.
    3. Pass mark for this assessment is now 80%, however, there are also embedded within the question paper 4 Safety Critical questions (these are marked on the exam paper with the letter SC for the candidate to see. If any of these 4 safety critical questions are answered incorrectly, regardless of whether or not and overall mark of 80% or more has been attained, the delegate will fail the exam.
