What is the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)?

What is the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme (SSSTS)?

SSSTS Training is the Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme accredited by CITB and is for first line managers - those who have to, or are about to, acquire supervisory responsibilities.

What is SSSTS Training designed to deliver?

SSSTS Training provides supervisors with an understanding of health, safety, welfare and environmental issues, as well as their legal responsibilities relevant to their work activities. It highlights legal responsibilities and the need to promote health and safety to supervise effectively. It is endorsed by Build UK as the standard training for all supervisors working on Build UK sites. Build UK is the leading representative organisation for the UK construction industry. This makes it an ideal course for anyone looking to take a supervisory role in the construction industry.

What is the SSSTS Training Course content

At the end of the course you will have an understanding of:

  • Health and safety law and how it applies to supervisors
  • Your supervisory responsibilities in controlling a site safety?
  • Risk assessments and the need for method statements
  • Effective site inductions, toolbox talks and method statement briefings
  • Monitoring site activities effectively
  • Timely intervention when bad practice is identified

What qualification does SSSTS Training give me?

Upon passing you’ll receive a CITB Site Safety Plus SSSTS certificate which is valid for 5 years. The SSSTS course is a nationally recognised safety qualification and it’s a requirement of most major contractor groups for supervisors working on their sites. To remain certified in this area, you will need to take an SSSTS refresher course before the expiry date on your certificate, otherwise the full course will need to be retaken.

SSSTS Certification qualifies you to safely manage a construction or civil engineering site

SSSTS, or Site Supervisor’s Safety Training Scheme to give it its full name, is a recognised qualification designed to equip you with an introductory level of health and safety, demonstrating how it is an essential function of effective supervision. It will provide you with a knowledge base and equip you with the skills to contribute to safely manage a construction or civil engineering site.
