SSSTS Course London - Highly Recommended
7 October 2024
Ricki Hincks recently attended the CITB SSSTS Course at London Waterloo, and here's why he would highly recommend RISK as training providers to anyone considering taking the qualification.
Why I needed to get SSSTS qualified
I visit numerous construction sites in my role as an Engineer Surveyor, carrying out the thorough examinations of tower cranes. My role is to ensure that, through legislation, safety is at the forefront, helping to prevent accidents, ensure compliance with safety standards, and maintain the reliability and performance of tower cranes on construction sites. Holding the SSSTS (Site Supervisor Safety Training Scheme) qualification means I understand site safety management principles, comply with health and safety legislation, and enhances my ability to identify and mitigate risks whist working on a construction site. All of which enables the various site managers to have the confidence in me to work unsupervised when on their site.
Why I'd recommend RISK for the SSSTS
Having served almost a decade in the military I'm no stranger to training, and in my new career as an Engineer Surveyor, I have undertaken multiple courses. Which is why I feel qualified to say the quality of the training delivered by RISK was first class. It was highly professional, well organised and engaging. There is a vast amount of information to take on board in the day and a half SSSTS course, with the final half day being revision and the written exam. From the joining instructions to the venue, facilities and trainer, RISK provided the information and delivered the course in a format which enables you to focus on what you needed to learn.
Safety Critical Questions
What I found out whilst taking the course is there are four safety critical questions, and if you answered everything correctly but got an element wrong in one of these you fail. This felt unfair and I admit knowing this placed additional pressure on me whilst learning the course materials. However, what RISK and the trainer did brilliantly, was they gave us structured notes - the format of which guaranteed we understood the context of the information being delivered in relation to the exam. This built my confidence, but more importantly, my understanding of the information being taught.
The UJ Club is a fantastic venue
"I understand RISK have delivered training from here for over a decade, and being ex-REME, it's a venue familiar to me. The training room and subsidised hospitality in the bar and restaurant gives amazing value for a central London venue. Being located directly across the road from Waterloo Station, it couldn't be more accessible or easier to find. Speaking with other delegates on the course, I found the people taking the qualification alongside me were from very mixed backgrounds. Several delegates did not have English as a first language, and I can understand why a face-to-face course would be more beneficial for them. But one thing we all had in common, was we all agreed the venue was great, and the way the RISK broke down the course material and delivered it, was what made the biggest difference. Which is why I would highly recommend RISK as training providers to anyone considering taking the SSSTS qualification in London."
