Why do you need an SMSTS Refresher Course?

Your SMSTS certificate is valid for 5 years, however, because legislation constantly changes, you need to prove you are keeping upto date with it. The SMSTS refresher course provides evidence of this.
An SMSTS Refresher Course is 2 days, wait until your SMSTS Certificate expires and you will need to resit the whole 5 day course again.
Upon passing you will be awarded the Site Safety Plus CITB Construction Site Management Safety Training Certificate (SMSTS). This certificate will remain valid for 5 years.
What does the 2 day SMSTS refresher course cover?
Developing your existing skills and knowledge, you will:
- Get briefed on the latest legislation, compliance and environmental governance.
- Understand and know how to implement new guidance and best practice.
- Be aware of and understand the current focus of HSE's attention.
- Know your legal responsibilities as a supervisor or manager
- Be able to audit and measure health and safety performance to the latest legislation

- Risk assessment and method statements
- The latest CDM Regulations
- Construction Health, Safety and Welfare (CDM part 2)
- Reporting of Accidents, Diseases and Dangerous Occurrences
- Overview and changes to the current legislation affecting construction to include:
- Work at Height Regulations
- Control of Substances Hazardous to Health
- Control of Vibration at Work Regulations
- Control of Noise at Work Regulations
- Fire on construction sites including Fire Safety Order
- Construction waste and Site Waste Management Plans
How long does the SMSTS refresher course last?
The refresher course lasts 2 days of trainer led learning. It is a mandatory requirement of CITB that all delegates attend both days, in sequential order.
