NEBOSH General Certificate London with RISK Health and Safety Training
Barry Long took the NEBOSH General Certificate course in London - taking the RISK Fast Track NEBOSH course format. This enables you to immerse yourself in the subject matter and take an exam while your knowledge on the subject matter is fresh and undiluted.
I have taken on the responsibility for the Health & Safety - and need the NEBOSH General Certificate
"I’m Barry Long I work for a company called Infinity, I am the Group Security Manager as part of the restructure of the company I have taken on the responsibility for the Health & Safety so now I have becoming the Life Manager as well so therefore part of that development of that role is why I am on the NEBOSH course at the moment.
Fast Track NEBOSH means you do an exam in it then park it and move on to the next one
I am attending this NEBOSH course for personal development, the structure of this course is very different to I think the traditional way of doing a course where you do a long period of study and then a concentrated exam at the end, where this breaks it down into blocks, I am more used to doing this type of course, based on the fact that I come from a policing background and taken part in quite a large number where you take a large number of subjects and deal with it, do an exam in it then park that and move onto the next area. I prefer that element I think it allows you to take the subject in more depth knowing that you don’t have to retain that information to that sort of depth over a longer period and that then allows you to go onto other areas and then take that in and move on.

You have got train stations across the road, Kings Cross, you’ve got Euston where I came into, literally a 5 minute walk.
The Guaranteed Pass was an influence
Yes, the Guaranteed Pass was an influence from my point of view with relation to cost for my company and also the fact that the way the course was structured as well as the Guaranteed Pass, the structure and the fact the exam almost followed the course made it ideal for me rather than having to go back over it again later and try to retain that information. I think the Guraranteed Pass for me was certainly a high motivator with me booking with RISK.
This NEBOSH course allows you to pick up on other peoples’ experiences
This sort of course sort of allows you to pick up on other peoples’ experiences on how they would deal with a subject in relation to me I’m from a security background, we’ve got people from construction, we’ve got people from universities and they all have a different angle to bring into it and I think you are learning from their experiences.
Mikes style is very good it very much what I am used to, from my training background. I think he highlights the areas that you need to spend more time on, he leads you through the subject really well, rather than, he doesn’t jump from area to area, he is progressive, he allows you to sort of follow the subject really well.
NEBOSH really comes into play is the fact that I am the advisor to the board of directors
In respect to my job today and where NEBOSH really comes into play is the fact that I am the advisor to the board of directors in the business, so I will be the Safety Officer for the company. It will be my responsibility in respect of health & safety policy, making sure its correct, making sure the areas of business produce their relative risk assessments and from a business point of view signing those off for the business so it’s really from a corporate strategic point of view and I think this will be the first of hopefully many courses I will do.
