RISK have been delivering Health & Safety Awareness and SSSTS training for facilities managers at UK distribution centres for this expanding retailer.

Health & Safety Awareness and SSSTS delivered in-company

With a growing team to manage, following the German retailers biggest UK grocery market share increase, the supermarket chain has commissioned a programme of in-company training. The in-company training is to deliver the essential Health & Safety Awareness and SSSTS courses for its facilities managers. The Health & Safety Awareness Course provides key safety information to staff, covering many aspects of the Health & Safety in the workplace. It helps raise safety standards and awareness. The SSSTS qualification is designed for those with supervisory roles within the construction industry. It provides a comprehensive overview of health & safety in a dynamic environment.

Why in-company Health & Safety Awareness and SSSTS?

In short, it's more cost effective and faster to roll-out. Delivered at the distribution centres means more people can attend the training, spend less time away from their day-to-day job and the programme is tailored to their specific circumstances. The Health & Safety Awareness course is perfect for delivering the exact amount of safety awareness information to your staff. The course is delivered at a high tempo and usually completed within 3 hours. In contrast the SSSTS course is 2 days and is focused on the responsibilities of the facilities managers and their role in overseeing safety in performing maintenance task in the 24/7 operational environment of a distribution centre.

Qualifications which help demonstrate Health & Safety Awareness

Under the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, employers have a legal duty to ensure, so far as is reasonably practicable, the health, safety and welfare at work of employees. Under UK law it’s the employer’s responsibility to protect the health and safety of not only their employees, but also anyone else who might be affected by the business; e.g. customers, visitors and passers-by.

The German retailer has experienced a burst of store openings

The so-called “big four” – Tesco, Sainsbury’s, Asda and Morrisons – all lost market share. Aldi and Lidl ring up one in every seven pounds spent on groceries in the UK. Lidl has bagged its biggest ever slice of UK grocery spending. Sales at the discount retailer jumped 7.7% in the three months to 11 August, fuelled by a burst of store openings that attracted nearly 500,000 more customers, compared with the same period of 2018. The influx of shoppers helped Lidl attain a 5.9% market share – its largest to date.
